Is there a breakdown of how many vehicles are electric, hybrid, and other alternative fuels?
According to the data published by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, registered vehicles are 61,3M units in Japan as of October 2016. (This is a cumulative number.)The Automobile Inspection & Registration Information Association shows 73,378 electric passenger vehicles as registered vehicles in their data as of March, 2016. Based on these data, currently EVs make up for 0.1% of the market in Japan.
According to Next Generation Vehicle Promotion Center's data, registered PHEVs are 70,323 units and FCVs are 1,807 respectively as of March 2016 . Meantime, HEVs are 6,476,943.(Source: Automobile Inspection & Registration Information)
